Hello, I’m Jann
baby mama | artist | maker | color enthusiast
| beach lover | mountain dweller | plant person
I am a 38 year old resident of Salt Lake City, Utah but currently living in Gilbert, Arizona while my husband learns to be a pilot. Born and raised in southern California. As long as I can play outside, I am happy to live by the ocean, mountains or desert.I have been married to my love since August of 2013. We have traveled, made career changes and have three small children that have rocked our world, changed us and showed us what true love really is. I like to sew my own clothes, paint and sometimes reinvent the wheel just to see how something works. I have a BFA in painting and color theory but mostly at this point I am just a student of life and the earth around me. There is not better teacher than trail and error. I have been painting and admiring art since I was a child. I had mentors and parents who always encouraged me to create to which I am forever grateful.
I enjoy making something that was not made before. Freezing a moment in time. Turning up the music and letting go on the canvas. I find the process therapeutic, emotion and spiritual. It gives me peace, healing and place. I am very inspired by my surroundings, past and present. If rock walls and water could talk, what would they tell us about the past. If we could peel back the layers, what would we learn. I like to paint in layers and trust the process that in the end those layers will compliment each other and each piece will be as it is supposed to be. Just like space, time and the places we explore. I have my own connections to my work but I want you to let those colors and marks run through you. Make your own connections. Make them your own places that have defined you.
I do have a 12 year portfolio of making wedding gowns. I made custom gowns and sold my own designs. I am glad for that time but let’s be real, Rothko, Frankenthaler, Keiln, and Dixon have made a mark in my soul. So here I am, embracing something that makes me much happier. I am falling more in love with process and color all over again.
Thank you for caring and for supporting me. I love you.
